    I have GR2. When I tried to do your fast mode, even after setting the min shutter speed, it doesn’t seem to work. I set it to 250, and when I went to take a photo, the shutter speed was 1/40. ?

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore 4 года назад +5

      It's not a hard minimum. It's the lowest shutter speed the camera will use before raising the ISO. So, if your max ISO was met, then the camera has no choice but to lower the shutter speed, otherwise the photo will be underexposed. This is why this minimum shutter speed setting is found in the auto ISO menu, because it's related to that. As I say in the video, I use a max ISO of 3200. So, at f/2.8 it should be possible to maintain a minimum shutter of 1/250 up to 3200 ISO in most reasonable lighting conditions. Of course, when it gets really dark, this is not enough light and so the camera will go below 1/250.

      @@EYExplore Same. I'm doing this in a relatively dark area in my home. I have min and max ISOs 200-6400. I take a shot on AV at f2.8, with 'change shutter speed' set to 1/250. It's coming out f2.8, 1/40, 800. Which is nowhere near my max ISO. Baffled. Seems like not a limit at all.

    • @lostintranslations
      @lostintranslations 2 года назад

      The scene is under exposed, it's maxing the ISO but still too dark, so it has to drop the shutterspeed to compensate.

    Excellent video. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for low light shots that have motion in them. The GRiii can go down to 30th second with the IBIS, which is great for posed or static shots, but motion blur is an issue when they move e.g. toddler, dancing, pet etc

    I set my GRII to TAv at all times and ISO max at 6400. Standard setting f8 and 1/250. As I walk in a situation I check the light and adjust A / T settings if needed to keep auto Iso in hand. This way I don’t mis a shot. I prefer noise over not be able to make a shot if I have to be very quick. I never have to think what mode my camera is in.

    When I shoot in TAv mode, the Auto ISO goes much too high (25.600) though the manual says that the maximum Auto ISO was 800. I absolutely do not understand. Auto-hi works well in TAv. The Auto ISO problem is only in TAv mode. It works well in AV and TV mode. Dynamic range correction and everything is disabled. Ideas, anyone? :)

  • @dddmmm21

    Hi, great vid, but question please... I simply do not understand the ISO AUTO-HI settings, they dont seem to work as you say. Setting the "Change Shutter Speed" to 1/250 and allowing the ISO to go very high (Max = 6400+), the camera still chooses slower speeds like 1/40 or 1/60. If in those cases the ISO was being maxed at 6400 then I could imagine that would be the camera overriding my settings, but it is not... it still chooses random settings like 1/40 ISO 600. Not sure the "Change Shutter Speed" act as a forced minimum as you said. Thoughts? Thanks

    • @dddmmm21
      @dddmmm21 3 года назад +3

      Actually just found the answer to my question... you MUST DISABLE the "Dynamic Range Compensation" for the the AUTO-HI settings to work as intended. I dont think it is in the manual. Had to dig deep in forums to find answer... I suppose it is an enigmea Ricoh left there to check if people were paying attention.

    • @dddmmm21
      @dddmmm21 3 года назад +1

      @@ragadnurialda5069 Look at the menus for the "Dynamic Range Compensation" option, or "DR" for short, as you typically see on the display. I had DR-ON (or AUTO, dont remember). Once you set that to OFF, the whole thing should work. Once set as above, the ISO will vary to keep shutter speed never going slower than set in the AUTO-HI options. However notice that if after maxing to the preset ISO, your limit preset shutter speed remains not enough to expose properly, the camera will override your preset and choose a slower Shutter speed.

    Hello, can someone help. When I set my GRII on TAv mode, i hope my ISO at maximum (I insist) at 3200 when I shoot in dark places it goes higher like 8000 but I don't want to! Does anyone knows why? Thanks
    Ps: it also happens when I select max shutter speed at 1/250 and when I shoot the photo when It's dark it goes like 1.3 sec...
    Thanks!

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore 4 года назад +2

      After setting the max ISO to 3200, make sure to also set the ISO to auto. That should solve the problem of the shutter speed going to 1.3 sec when it's dark. However, it's odd that the ISO goes to 8000 even when you have max 3200 set AND set to auto ISO. That should not be happening and I can't think of a reason why.

    • @richg4628
      @richg4628 4 года назад +1

      It's possibly because the sensor is not getting enough light at the settings you have selected? In that case the camera will force the ISO beyond your limit.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore 4 года назад +2

      @@richg4628 The limit should be a hard limit. If there is not enough light for some reason (like if it's on TAv + auto ISO and the shutter or aperture are too fast) then the photo will just be dark. If you are on Av + Auto ISO, the camera will adjust exposure using the shutter speed and ISO. When the ISO hits the max, the shutter speed will go below the minimum shutter speed you set. So, even in that case, the ISO should not go over the max. I wish I could see this on your camera, because in all my years, on many different cameras I have not see the ISO go over the set max when using auto ISO + Av.

    Hi guys. I've been trying to buy the Ricoh GR in India and it just seems so hard to find any sellers for the same. It is out of stock or unavailable. Can you please sell Ricoh GR in India via Amazon or Flipkart or any accessible store. The original ricoh website for India now is the page for the parent company Minosha I believe. It does not list cameras. We really would have a great market for GR series in India. India is a street photographer's paradise. With all the overwhelming sights and colors, there is never going to be a dull frame. We really need GR here. I would like to be a GR ambassador from India someday.

    • @Edwin1947D
      @Edwin1947D 4 года назад +1

      ajvaar I think the issue depends on which GR model you use. My GR III does not have a TAv setting on the mode dial. When I am in manual mode I can use auto ISO to control exposure if I choose to do so - I guess that’s why they didn’t include the TAv mode on the newer model.

    • @slimphotog
      @slimphotog 4 года назад

      @@Edwin1947D But does it mean you have to go into the menu? In that case, I wish they left TAv mode on the dial.

    • @Edwin1947D
      @Edwin1947D 4 года назад

      slimphotog - you go into the menu to set the camera to auto iso and the range of iso settings - once that’s done no further need to go into the menu.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore 4 года назад +2

      On some cameras there is no TAv mode. Instead Manual + auto ISO = TAv. However, on the GR, there is a dedicated TAv mode. If you put it on M then the ISO also becomes manual. That's the difference.
